SMS QR code: scan to send you a text
One scan opens the phone's messaging app with your number and the message already filled in. The person reads it, edits it if they like, and taps Send.

How to make it
- Enter the phone number that should receive the texts, with the country code, for example +1 555 123 4567.
- Write the message you'd like people to send, like "Hi, I'd like a quote for" or "Table for 2 tonight". Keep it short; they can edit it.
- Download and print it on your van, flyer, window or counter sign, with a line that says what happens: "Scan to text us".
How an SMS QR code works
The code holds your number and the message text in the SMSTO format that iPhone and Android cameras understand. Scanning opens the messaging app with both filled in. Nothing is sent until the person taps Send, and nothing goes through us: the code is made in your browser and we never see the number or the message.
Where scan-to-text works well
Trades and services ("Text us for a quote"), restaurants that take bookings by text, shops that answer questions by text, and anyone who'd rather get a text than a call. A pre-written message with a keyword, like "QUOTE" or "MENU", tells you where the text came from.
Use a number you can answer
Scans arrive at odd hours. Use a business line, or a service that forwards texts to the right person, and put the code only where that line is current. Unlike a dynamic link, the number inside an SMS code can't be changed after printing.
Need a code you can change after printing?
Dynamic codes point to a link you can edit any time and show scans by day, city and device. They work with website links, so point one at your menu, booking page or contact page. How dynamic codes work.
Frequently asked questions
Does the message send automatically when someone scans?
No. The phone opens the messaging app with the number and text filled in, and the person taps Send. They can edit the text first.
Do you send the SMS?
No. We don't send, receive or store any messages. The code only opens the person's own messaging app.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. The built-in camera on recent iPhones and Android phones recognises SMS codes and opens the messaging app. Test it on both before printing.
Can I change the number later?
Not in a printed SMS code: the number is stored in the pattern. If you expect it to change, point a dynamic code at a web page with your contact details instead.
